With the equivalent Open cancelled in 2020, it was time to hold the nerves and continue with the planned program. Despite the efforts of the Highways Agency in trying to say otherwise by closing the M4 and diverting the traffic into a major set of roadworks, competitors came from round the country.
The meet was a joint open with the Solo’s with the faster boats starting first. The weather was kind:- blue sky, wind, just what was needed to raise our spirits.
Toby Cooper (Broxbourne SC) crossed the start line first followed closely by Tim Davison (Medley SC). The reduced fleet continued with the shifty conditions, with Cooper and Davison giving some of the Solo Fleet a bit of a fright as they went by. The fleet finished with Cooper 1st, Davison 2nd, Hall (Maidenhead SC) 3rd.
After lunch the second race started in a similar way, but with a shift in the wind and an increase in strength saw Andrew Perrott (South Cerney SC) start 3rd behind the previous race’s leading pair.
The final race was back to back with the second race. With Cooper already having taken the overall first place, Davison, Perrott and Hall started within touching distance of each other. The three continued battling until Hall made an error letting Perrott through to finish in second place behind Davison.
